Our user-friendly consumer app is available for iOS and Android. It visualizes real-time energy data and graphs with historical overviews by day, week, month and year. Consumers can detect always- on power, energy guzzlers and learn more about their energy consumption and how much it costs. The app also allows them to control connected appliances and to set scenes to automate energy flows that optimize energy efficiency. The app offers different levels of branding and customized messaging options for our partners. Download the Smappee Energy Monitor 2.0 app from GooglePlay or iTunes. We gladly take you and your customers on a tour of the app below.

1. See energy consumption at a glance.

Open the app to see the realtime flows in the buidling at a glance, including energy, solar energy, gas and water. The yellow bubble shows how much energy is consumed in real time. The green bubble indicates how much energy the solar panels are producing. Smappee also shows users how much water and gas is consumed that day on the same screen.

Are you curious to see how much energy is consumed by appliances that are always on? Smappee calculates standby power consumption in Watts and in percentages, compared with total energy consumption. Want to know the total cost? Smappee calculates that too. Scroll down to see the costs of the energy consumption, expressed in the phone’s standard currency.

The timeline also shows which appliances used that day.

2. Reduce energy bills.

Smappee gives a better understanding of long-term energy consumption and production. It’s our way of trying to raise awareness about how much energy users consume in their home or company. So houses and company buildings definitely don’t need to go on an energy diet. Customers save quite a lot of money by using energy efficiently without having to scrimp on comfort.

Click a bubble to see energy consumption charts. Pull up the same data for electricity, solar energy, gas and water, by the day, week, month or year. Scroll down for a global overview in kWh and euros, pounds, dollars...

Like a real energy detective, Smappee delves deeper to identify costs right down to the level of the submetered appliances. Select a month or year to see how much these appliances cost in the cost analysis.

In addition to a very detailed and user-friendly overview, Smappee gives regular tips about how to save energy in the short and long term. Like a personal energy coach.

3. Automate and control the energy flows.

With Smappee, you have a smart tool to tackle energy consumption—but there are plenty of other smart tools that can also connect with the Smappee ecosystem under the Control tab. Connect a Smappee Switch to remotely operate appliances. Smappee also measures the energy consumption of these appliances. In addition, remotely operate thermostats thanks to the integration with Nest ThermostatTM.

Ready for the next step? Then let us introduce you to the world of the Connected Home! Go to Smappee Scenes to make appliances interact with each other. Automate certain events that make life even easier. Just set up a few Smappee Scenes to make the building so much smarter—although you’ll remain the smartest thing!

Smappee continuously expands its ecosystem with compatible third party IoT products and platforms. Smappee is also open for partners including our technology in their products or services. We work with IP based connections and standards such as ModBus, IoT language MQTT and OCPP to quickly develop new use cases and speed up integrations. In addition to being a energy detective and energy coach, Smappee also is a smart home control centre ;). Get an idea of how users can create their connected home or business with the Smappee ecosystem in our blog post here.

Tip! Focus on next business opportunities and don’t worry about the electricity bill. Power down your home office with a Switch when your geolocation is more than 200 meters from the home. Immediately wind down when you come back by automating the radio to turn on as soon as there is activity in the house.

Tip! Optimize investments in renewable energy sources for your business. Create an Import/Export Scene to use any residual solar energy to charge the electric car while you’re working. Car completely charged? See how the excess solar energy is stored in the VARTA Storage system.

4. Get a grip on standby power.

Within 24 hours of installing Smappee, users will already have a better idea of the standby power consumption. Because even in standby mode appliances still consume electricity. Go to the Smappee App to see calculation of standby power consumption in Watts and in percentages compared with overall consumption. Smappee alerts if standby power consumption is higher than usual and when if standby power consumption is reduced.

Tip! Automate appliances with a high stand-by consumption, like a television, to turn off when Netatmo Smart Indoor Camera detects you’re not at home.

Tip! Only consume energy when it’s useful. Connect the AC to a Smappee Switch and make it turn on automatically when Netatmo Smart Thermostat detects the temperature is above the specified threshold.

 5. Detect energy guzzlers.

Click “Appliances” to find energy values of appliances submetered by Smappee Infinity, Smappee Switch or deteceted via NILM technology.

But there’s more: now you can also assist Smappee's NILM technology by telling right away which appliances are detected correctly. Swipe the wrongly-detected appliance to the left in the Events list. Hit the nail on the head? Swipe right!

Sort appliances according to “highest consumption” to detect energy guzzlers. Replace them with more energy-efficient appliances. Old washing machines, tumble-dryers, fridges and freezers are often the cause. Smappee even gives warning if the fridge or freezer’s energy consumption is unusual. Perhaps the door was left open or it’s time to defrost the freezer. Or perhaps the time has come to purchase a more energy-efficient model.

Tip! Put energy guzzlers on a diet with a Smappee Switch. Use it to remotely allocate them the power they require.

Change energy habits.
Hopefully we'll have succeeded in our endeavour and Smappee users now be more aware of the energy they consume. Save money and the environment also stands to benefit, now and in the future. And perhaps that is Smappee's greatest merit ;).
