Belgian cleantech company Smappee announced today it has won its place in the Red Herring‘s Top 100 Europe, a prestigious list honoring the year’s most promising private technology ventures from the European business region.

The Red Herring editorial team selected the finalists from a pool of over 1200 companies in the telecommunications, security, cloud, software, hardware, biotech, mobile and other industries that completed their submissions to qualify for the prestigious Top 100 Award. The nominees were evaluated on 20 main quantitative and qualitative criterion, which include disruptive impact, market footprint, proof of concept, financial performance, technology innovation, social value, quality of management, execution of strategy, and integration into their respective industries.

This unique assessment of potential was complemented by a review of the track record and standing of a company, which allowed Red Herring to see past the “buzz” and make the list a valuable instrument for discovering and advocating the greatest business opportunities in the industry. The finalists for the 2017 edition of the Red Herring 100 Europe award were selected based upon their technological innovation, management strength, market size, investor record, customer acquisition, and financial health.

“This year was rewarding, beyond all expectations” said Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring. “There are many great companies generating really innovative and disruptive products in Europe. We had a very difficult time narrowing the pool and selecting the finalists. We found Smappee of great promise and therefore thought it deserved to be among the finalists. Yesterday, all finalists gave a corporate pitch, based on which the 100 winners were selected. After the pitch of Smappee CEO Stefan Grosjean, we were convinced the company deserved its place in the Red Herring Top 100.
