Smappee works with Amazon AlexaSmappee, the smart energy monitor, has integrated with Amazon Alexa, Amazon’s cloud-based voice service. Combined with the Smappee control modules, you can now use voice control with new “smart” devices as well as on “dumb” appliances, such as your favourite retro design lamp. Smappee now offers even more opportunities for turning family homes into smart and energy-efficient houses because of this integration.

Alexa is the voice technology behind Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Show and more. Since Amazon made the speech technology available for developers, they can add various functions. In the meantime, 12,000 skills have been published, adding to Amazon Alexa’s functions. Smappee has now developed two new skills for Amazon Alexa.

The first skill is the Smappee smart home skill for Amazon Alexa. Previously the smart energy monitor already gave you a real-time overview of your energy consumption, allowing you to control this with the Smappee Switch and Smappee Output module. Following the integration with Amazon Alexa, these “dumb” appliances can now also be voice controlled. You can now switch off your TV when you receive an important phone call with a voice command.

The second skill is that consumers can now verbally request the consumption of their household appliances for a specific period, i.e., for a week or month. You can now also ask Smappee how much energy your solar panels generated over a specific period for example.

“Our homes are becoming increasingly smart. Voice technology like Amazon Alexa plays an important role in this evolution”, says Stefan Grosjean, Smappee’s CEO. “We can now switch on or switch off appliances even more easily depending on our needs. This is all part of our objective of transforming family homes into smart and energy-efficient houses. So we are really enthusiastic that we can now use the Amazon Alexa technology to offer our customers an improved smart home experience.”
